An Unexpected Annunciation: Gabriel suddenly manifests himself to a startled Zechariah, who is burning incense in the temple. The archangel foretells the birth of a son to this somewhat sceptical old man and goes on to assert his authority and power - adding that Zechariah will be dumb, because of his unbelief, until the child is born.
